The second-generation Smart electric drive vehicles are making their way into the wild, which means the first customers are now getting their Fortwo EVs in Berlin. Daimler announced today that Rolf Bauer, an artist and owner of a film dubbing studio, and Lutz Tamaschke, who owns a dental technology company, were the first two customers to take deliveries of a Smart Ed. Following these initial deliveries, Daimler will deliver the Smart Ed to fleet, business and private customers in Italy, Spain, England, France, Switzerland, the U.S., and Canada.
This is all fine and good, but what's up with this line in Daimler's press release? "[Li-ion batteries and an intelligent charging system] make the smart fortwo electric drive the first environmentally and customer-friendly electric vehicle." Huh? The first? That's just silly to say.
