One of the few car companies that has remained profitable through the current economic downturn is the Volkswagen Group. Among the group's brands, Audi is doing particularly well and plans to spend big bucks on both redesigned and additional models. €7.9 billion will be spent over the next three years for vehicles like the new A8 as well as the new A1, A7, A6 and the R8 spyder.

On the greener side, Audi will finally launch its first full production hybrid. After first planning a Q5 and then an A4, the hybrid hardware has finally landed in the Q5. The Q5 hybrid will debut a year from now, likely at the LA Auto Show and then go in sale in the first part of 2011.

The Q5 will probably use a lithium ion battery, but the rest of the hybrid hardware will likely be based on the VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne that start production early in 2010.
