Jay Leno loves his cars. Not exactly a breaking news lede there. But he does have his upcoming prime time show debuting in a few weeks and there is news to report on the "advertiser friendly" Green Car Challenge. When we first heard about the green racing, word was that celebrity guests would compete against each other while driving alternative fuel vehicles on a track built outside the new studio. The latest news, coming to us from the Hollywood Reporter, is that the friendly advertiser in question is Ford, and that we can expect celebs to race sponsored Ford Focuses 2-3 times a week. Full details still aren't available, but the show premiers September 14th at 10 p.m. on NBC, so we won't have long to find out what is up.
We know that automobiles will play a bigger part in the new show than they did on The Tonight Show (how could they play a smaller role?). Autos will make up big part of the show's decor, and cars will also be featured on the stage, if infrequently, thanks in part to a large door that will allow Leno to drive onto the set.
