General Motors has announced that Michael Robinson will be its new vice president responsible for Environment, Energy and Safety Policy. That means Robinson will be GM's chief advocate on most of the policies determined by the federal government. Robinson will be replacing Beth Lowery, who is retiring at the end of the month. Robinson has been at GM for 25 years and most recently served as the company's general counsel for North America. In his new role, Robinson will lead GM's efforts on negotiations with regulators on issues like fuel efficiency, emissions and safety rules. Among those will likely be procedures that govern the energy use measurements for electrified vehicles like the Volt. Robinson earned his law degree from Villanova in 1984 after serving in the air force and getting his political science degree in 1977 from Holy Cross.
