Good news for southwest England residents who are fans of EVs and/or the MINI: BMW is now accepting applications for an allotment of 20 MINI E leases. Why is it good news that a company will take your money? Because these leases will be offered with a substantial price reduction. Thanks to a £25 million fund from the Technology Strategy Board, BMW will offer the £550 monthly leases for just £330, including VAT (sales tax), insurance and basic maintenance costs. The new lessees must have a private place to keep the car at their home, as they will get a 240V/32 amp charging unit from the Southern Electric utility that allows the batteries to be charged in about 4.5 hours. A full charge during low-demand hours will cost around £1.50 and it'll cost about £4 during peak hours. An additional adaptor for use with an ordinary 13 amp socket will also be supplied. Interested? The application can be found here. Full press release after the jump.
